Irish Dance Wigs
The popular Irish dancing today stems from their rich dancing heritage. Their dances are a mixture of the many different cultures of the Irish settlers and captures. The Druids were the first to bring dance. The druids used dance as a religious service. The Celts from centeral Europe brought with them folk dances. In the sixteenth century it was popular to hold Irish dance performances in the great castles.
The Royal Irish Members enjoyed Irish Dances. When Royalty arrived they were often greeted by Irish Dancers. The king would often join his servants in Irish Dance.
In the eighteenth century Irish Dance teachers created group dances and taught it to the peasant children. Each teacher's dances differed slightly from the next.
Today many children still attend Irish Dance Classes. They wear special costumes to commemorate their heritage, though the costumes do differ slightly from one school to the next.
Costumes usually include dresses with slightly fitted tops and princess skirts ( or other styles that move out and give room.) They are usually heavily embroidered by a colorful Celtic design. Some also come along with matching scarf like capes. These capes are held on with round brooches that are normally embellished with colorful stones.
On their head Irish Dance Wigs are worn. There are many different styles of Irish dance wigs but the theme of all Irish Dance Wigs are that they are curly and high. Full Irish Dance Wigs are full of curls that go around the head. The type of curls vary. There are Irish dance wigs that are filled with locks of curls; Irish dance wigs that are filled very tight curls and Irish Dance wigs that are filled with slightly looser curls. The lengths of these Irish dance wigs also vary from very short to below shoulder length. Most of these types of Irish Dance Wigs are worn with a bit of the person's own hair sticking out and then a colorful tiara matching to their costume.
There are also some less full Irish Dance wig attachments. These are curly updo wigs or pony tail wigs. The person own hair is gathered together and then these wigs cover the pony tail or wig. Again the degree of curliness varies in these Irish Dance Wigs. Often silver Tiaras are worn with these type of Irish Dance Wigs.
Children usually dress up for their feis (pronounced "fesh ) which are their dance competitions in their Irish Dance Costumes.
Make a "tree bun" sticking up right on top of the head. Do this by starting with a half ponytail on top of the head but the last time instead of pulling the pony tail all the way through leave it sticking out.
Tie the bottom hair into one or two buns (the same kind of buns) depending on thickness
Hold Irish dance wig combs in two hands. Start at beginning of hair line and push Irish dance wig back about 1 inch. Push back comb into bottom of hair
Fasten Tiara at beginning of wig line (to cover wig line)
Suggestion: It is advisable to keep hair of Irish dance wig in net until right before performance so that it should not lose its curls.
