Clown Wig
All the children in Funny Fun Day Camp were very excited. Miss Exitington had announced that a clown would be visiting the day camp that day. Freddy was most excited of all and kept on asking Miss Exington, "when is the clown coming already? When is the clown coming already?"
Finally the clown arrived. All the children ran over to the clown, but not Freddy. Freddy looked from a distance. He saw the clowns polka doted costume. It looked to him like a huge bug. Freddy started to get nervous He noticed the clown's big white gloves and it looked to him like the hands of a ghost. His body started to shake. Freddy noticed the clown's big flobby shoes. They looked like the feat of a wild ferocious beast he had seen pictures of. He eyed the clowns round red nose. It was just as he pictured the nose of mean fairy women that his grandpa used to tell him stories about. Freddy moved even further away from the clown. The clowns make up reminded Freddy of a wicked Indian Chief. Then Freddy noticed the curly colorful clown wig. Now Freddy was sure the clown was a big mean wicked ferocious monster. Freddy started to cry as he ran further and further from the clown.
The clown came towards Freddy. "What's the problem?" he asked Freddy softly. Freddy heard the soft voice and thought for a moment that maybe the clown was really nice. But then he remembered about the story of the moster who spoke nicely to the kids and offered them candy just to trick them. Freddy continued running.
"You are a monster," he screamed. " I'm not gona let you catch me."
"But look," the clown tried again, as he pulled off his gloves. "Look, at my nice gentle hands. Mosters don't have such gentle hands."
Freddy looked at the clown's hands and calmed down for a moment. Then he looked at the ferocious looking wig and started his hysterics all over.
Then the clown jumped out of his floppy shoes and Freddy saw the clowns small feet. 'Could a moster have such small feet?' Freddy wondered, but he looked back up at the clown wig and decided he wasn't taking any chances. He continued to cry.
The clown let out a sigh of exasperation as he removed his clown suit and uncovered her beige dress.
"Look, I am just a person wearing a clown costume," the clown said. But Freddy was still shook every time he looked at the scary clown wig on the clown head.
'A monster can also wear a dress,' he thought to himself.
Next the clown pulled off her clown nosey. Then she pulled out a tissue and wiped off the make up on her face.
'There is no way a monster can have such a lovely face,' Freddy decided. He stopped shaking. Still he looked at the clown wig and he wouldn't come close to the clown.
Finally the clown pulled off her clown wig, and her wavy blond hair fell to her shoulder. Her hair looked just like Miss Exitington's hair. Freddy looked again. It was Miss Exitington's hair. The clown was not a monster at all. It was just Miss Exitington. All the children, including Freddy started laughing wildly.
Miss Exitington walked over to Freddy and placed the wig on Freddy's head.
"Look, Now Freddy is the clown," she said with a giggle.
Clowns can be great children's entertainment. However, some small children are terrified of clowns. When visiting small children it is a good idea to bring a few extra clown wigs and maybe even some clown noses and clown make-up. Show the children that a clown is really just a person and anyone can put on a clown wig and look like a clown. This will help relieve the children of their fears.
