Best Wig
There is no such thing as a best wig. Here are a few different profiles and the best wig advisor's suggestions.
Dear Best Wig Advisor,
I am a successful real estate agent in my early thirty's and I date regularly. My hair has always been my prized possession. Since I was a child I have worn my smooth blond hair down to my mid back. A half hour for blow drying my hair has become routine.
I was absolutely devastated when I started experiencing hair loss. I ran to doctor after doctor, but none could help me. At first I was able to cover the bald spots with my other hair, but by now I don't quite have enough hair to cover all the empty spots. What would be the best wig for me?
Former Beautiful Blonde
Dear Former Beautiful Blonde,
I believe the best wig for you would be a custom human hair integration piece. Integration pieces require the most time to put on, but from your description of how you take care of your hair it sounds like you can handle it. You also sound like you have built yourself a successful career and can afford to pay for a human hair custom wig. Being that you are so used to looking nice and that you are in the dating stage I feel it is very important that you get the most flattering wig you can, which is definitely custom and human hair. An integration piece will allow you to make use of the beautiful hair you do still have, giving you room to pull your own hair through the cap and integrate it with the wig hair. This will also give you the most natural hair possible. I believe this would be the best wig for you

Dear Best Wig Advisor,
I am a mother of five little children, the oldest one is four. I have a four year old, three year old, twin two year olds (who are unquestionably in their terrible twos), and a six month old. I am so busy and overwhelmed that I hardly have a second to breathe. Sometimes I am outside with my kids when I realize I didn't even brush my hair. I am horrified when I look at myself in the mirror. One of my friends suggested I buy a wig. She lent me a wig catalogue but I hardly have a second to flip through it to choose a wig. What do you suggest is the best wig for me?
Frazzled Mommy
Dear Frazzled Mommy,
The best wig for you, and as a matter of fact the only wig for you is definitely a fully synthetic pre-styled wig. Synthetic wigs require the least care, keep their style the best and look best without being brushed. Though human wigs are the best wig for many people it would probably be worst for you. An unkempt human wig looks no better then unkempt human hair certainly much worse then unkempt synthetic wig. I say you should get a pre-styled wig because this will save you unnecessary trips to the hair salon to have your wig cut and styled. The wig will come ready to plop on your head and wear. When it has to be washed, you can simply wash it ( read washing wigs previous section) and wear it again when it dries. It should not need much styling. One word of caution: it will take a while in the beginning for you to get the wig on your head. It may be advisable to practice putting on the wig when the kids are sleeping so that you don't have to spend to much time before leaving the house. Also, even when you get very good at it , it still can take a minute or two to put on your wig. So if you don't even have that time maybe you should forget about your looks until your children grow up a little. Still, if you will have that minute a synthetic pre-styled wig is certainly the best wig for you.

Dear Best Wig Advisor,
Help! I am going bald! My problem is that I am just making ends meet and simply can't afford one of those beautiful expensive wigs. I grimace at the thought of buying a wig that looks like straw - I think it almost looks worse then a bald head. I stay in my house most of the day and am embarrassed to face the world. Do you have any suggestions for me?
Embarrassed Baldy
Dear Embarrassed Baldy,
Yes, I have the perfect solution for you. You mention two extremes but there is much in the middle. I think you can find a beautiful wig in your price range. Probably a human blend would be the best wig for you. The human hair gives the wig a natural look while the synthetic hair brings down its price. Find a style that suits you nicely and you will never be embarrassed to walk out again. Another benefit of a blend is that the care is much easier. While these wigs don't maintain their style as well as a synthetic wig they keep their style much better than a pure human hair wig. Look around a bit. I am sure you will find the best wig for you.
If you really can't find anything you like you may also want to look into hats or scarves. Both of these can be very fashionable, look beautiful and are relatively inexpensive.
