Polartec Fleece Fabrics

Polartec Classic fabrics, produced by Malden Mills, are today's reference standard for lightweight warmth, unparalleled quality and durability. A top choice for the primary insulation layer for outdoor activities, Polatec fleece fabrics are made of 100% polyester velour and maintain their insulating properties and non-pilling appearance even after repeated washing.

Here is how the Polartec insulating technology works: All insulation fabrics operate by trapping warm air pockets and holding them next to your body. The more loft a fabric possesses, the more air it traps.

Technical Highlights of Polartec fleece fabric:

  • Provides warmth without the weight and bulk of traditional insulating fabrics
  • Highly breathable to provide comfort in all activities; does not restrict the movement of moisture vapor
  • Dries quickly, minimizing heat loss
  • Machine washable and Durable
  • Appropriate for a broad range of activities
  • Available in light, mid, and heavy weight constructions to provide a choice of insulation level; Available in water repellent construction

Moreover, the Polartec line of fleece fabrics currently includes over 90 styles of fabrics available in hundreds of colors, patterns, and prints. If you have a fancy for fashion, Polartec fleece fabrics are your answer!

Polartec fleece fabrics are categorized as follows:
Next to the Skin fabrics: These fabrics actively pull moisture away from the body (wick), dry quickly, and breathe. Includes Power Dry, Power Shield and Power Stretch Series.
Thermal fabrics: Revolutionary products, these Polartec fabrics are available in a range of weights to provide the right level of insulation for your favorite outdoor activity. Includes the 100, 200, and 300 Series, and Wind-Pro.

Element Control fabrics: These weather protection fabrics are designed to keep you warm and toasty, even under the harshest conditions. Polatec Wind Pro has four times more wind resistance than traditional fleece. Polartec Windbloc ACT is claimed to block 98% of the wind while Polartec Windbloc is completely wind-proof. Polartec Power Shield has a woven nylon outer surface that provides protection from snow and light rain. Polartec Aqua Shell is waterproof and is a great insulation layer for all water sports.

Today, with advanced fabric technology, Polartec has developed sophisticated, improved features that are designed into or applied to existing fabrics. For example, unique silver yarns add permanent odor resistance, while yarn selection and different construction techniques create wind-resistant and sun-protective fabrics. And with advanced surface fusion polymer, fleece fabric can now be made more durable and highly water repellant.

Finally, using Recycled Fiber Technology to construct certain fabrics, Polartec lends its hand in protecting the environment, providing a viable end-use for post consumer recycled PETE containers (soda bottles) and/or post industrial polyester waste.

Polartec recent innovations include: Polartec Power Stretch-RX, a neoprene replacement fabric for medical applications and Polartec Thermal-FR, a flame resistant fleece for military, police, firefighters and work wear applications. Polartec also collaborates closely with the United States Special Forces, Marine Corps, Army, Navy and Air Force to develop a variety of Polartec fabrics that help keep the U.S. military the best dressed in the world. Some of the current military products include a Shipboard Blanket, Protective Combat Uniform, Multi-Climate Protection System, and Foul Weather Parka.
