Sew A Dog Bed

Sew A Dog Bed

Print Version Email To A Freind

When you have a sudden burst of energy, he is there to go for a run (even at three o'clock in the morning!) When you are struggling to put something into words, and need to talk it out with someone, he is there to lend an ear. When difficult times arise, he is there to sit by your side through it all. When tragedy strikes, he is there to give you comfort. He is even there for you to cry to when you just need to bawl. His loyalty, concern and affection show no bounds. Never critical or belittling, he never has a bad word to say about you. He truly is your very best friend. Now if only you could get your spouse to take a few lessons from good ole Rover!

Here's a neat new project idea that you can use to finally give back to that precious little guy who has given so much to you. Sew a dog bed! Sewing a dog bed takes very little sewing skills, and can be lots of fun. Dog beds can be as simple as a large (or small depending on the breed and size of your pooch) throw pillow, and be as elaborate as the miniature pet tents that you see in the storefronts. Any soft material will do, and Fido will certainly love whatever pattern or design you choose. Flannels are a popular trend, though. Puppy paws, bones, and food dishes are other favorites of dog lovers and owners. Small terriers, hearts, and bows are also adorable. Polar fleece is a soft and cozy material that your pet will love to snuggle up to.

To sew a dog bed is a simple enough project that requires fairly little supplies (the material and sometimes a zipper are the only essentials) and, like I said, almost no previous sewing skill. If you can sew some of the basic stitches, you can sew a dog bed. (If you know how to use a sewing machine, more options are open to you, but if not you are by no means 'in the dog house'!) This is also a small project, so it won't take up too much of your time. Two crafty ladies.com has a wonderful tutorial to help you sew a dog bed. Follow their easy and straightforward directions to create an excellent comfort spot for your pet. This oversized throw pillow will certainly make for a cozy couch for your critter, and is easy to remove and wash in case there are any accidents or it gets to the inevitable fur shedding season! If you are somewhat fashion conscious, and would prefer not throwing off the color scheme of your home, you can choose a material or pattern to match that of your living room décor (or whichever room the pup resides in most). When you sew a dog bed to match your furniture, it will blend right into the rest of the room, never creating an eyesore or haphazard feeling. I would also recommend making a removable cover for you dog bed by adding a zipper to the fabric of choice. Like this, you will avoid all the problems listed above, and you can change the cover if you get new furniture or switch rooms.
